Living room after . . .  
Sofa was moved against the wall,  China Cabinet removed from living room, near kitchen (not shown) grouped arts and mirrors from many locations in the house to one wall behind sofa,  Cow hide rug added interest to the room.

Two arm chairs were moved into the living room for additional sitting and created a conversation group.  Placed large mirror on top of mantel to balance the fire place.  Layered arts and glass vases added depth.  
Next phase:  window treatment, and light fixtures.
Dining room "after" . . .
by removing the heavy sofa, there is room for a dining room that can sit up to 8.  A red wall and an over size black/white canvas made a high impact, a black rug defines the space, a modern spot light with dimmer provides flexible lighing.
Charming Cottage Living, Fair Oaks, CA
Two rooms were created in this space: one is modern and open:  Sectionals from the den were moved into the living room and placed separately,  two wicker chairs were brought in from bedroom, adding texture and a more relaxed attitude to the room,
On the other side of the living room, a reading nook by the fire place, and the piano make this music room romantic and cozy.
